  MOUNT ASPIRING / TITITEA

The Matterhorn of the South, Mount Aspiring is an achievable and challenging goal in a world-class alpine environment. Set your sights high and let us guide the way. If you believe you can, you're half way there.
Mount Aspiring (3027m) is the highest peak outside Mount Cook and Westland National Parks. Its stunning pyramid appearance is very distinctive and stands well above its neighbouring peaks and glaciers.
We ascend the mountain via the famous NW ridge which offers a mix of rock scrambling, some varied pitching and good cramponing on the summit icecap.
A reasonable level of fitness is required to complete the 10-12 hour return trip on summit day.
Let us guide you up this beautiful mountain and provide you with a very rewarding experience. Contact us today to book your Aspiring adventure!

A schedule for Mount Aspiring could be (weather dependent):
  • Day 1 - Sort Equipment and fly into Bevan Col via helicopter. Cross (via the Bonar Glacier) to Colin Todd Hut. Settle into the hut and explore local surrounds while practicing glacier travel and rope techniques. Guide will assess your fitness and technical understanding.
  • Day's 2 - 4 We have 3 days to choose the best weather for our ascent of Mount Aspiring. If the weather is with us a 4am rise will be needed. We then head up the Shipowner Ridge scrambling over rock to reach the NW ridge. We follow the ridge all the way to the summit, arriving on top around midday. It will be a big day out and we will not be back to the hut till around 5-7pm. If we have additional days we can consider climbing more peaks in the area. This is also possible while we wait for a weather window for our ascent day.
  • Day 5 - Egress day. We can choose to walk out of the mountains in a day or fly out to Wanaka (additional cost). We then head to the bar for a well earned beer!
