  FAQ

What level of fitness do I require?
For all day activities we expect a moderate level of fitness. You should be able to walk for 3-4 hours with a light backpack and be comfortable covering variable terrain. For multi-day activities, more commitment to fitness and training is encouraged so that you get the most out of your chosen activity. We can provide guidance with the level of fitness you require on individual courses and ascent programs. Contact us for further details.

What is provided by Summits Mountain Guiding?
We provide you with transport, a qualified, personable and experienced guide (familiar with the terrain you will be climbing in). All technical gear for single day activities is provided (except Avalanche Skills Course) On multi-day courses or climbs you will be expected to provide personal technical gear. We supply ropes, relevant climbing protection, tents, cookers, fuel and food. We have rental equipment available.

What am I expected to bring?
You will need all personal clothing suited to your chosen activity. On single day trips you will need lunch, something to drink, sunscreen and sunglasses and we recommend bringing a camera. If you have a small backpack bring it along too. On multi day options you will need personal climbing clothing, toiletries, sleeping bag and foam mat, backpack, personal hardware (harness, ice axe, boots, crampons and helmet) Contact us with any queries you may have regarding equipment and check out our equipment list.

Rental Equipment?
A full range of equipment is available for rent from Summits Mountain Guiding. The gear is top quality and charged at reasonable prices. Contact us for details and pricing.

Minimum Numbers?
The majority of our activities and courses have a minimum number of two participants required. If the activity only has one person booked, the trip can still run, but an increase in activity price is necessary. We limit our ratios in the mountains to 1 guide: 4 climbers. If we have more climbers, we increase the number of guides working on that particular course.

Payment Options?
We accept cash, Visa and Mastercard and direct bank deposit (Cheques for forward bookings only). Forward bookings require a 50% deposit and full payment must be received two days before commencement of course.

Refunds and Cancellations?
Single Day Activities: A full refund will be given if your activity is cancelled due to the weather. You will receive a full refund if you cancel a booking, giving 24 hours notice before the meeting time. Multi-day activities will continue in all conditions, as alternative locations will be utilized. A full refund will be given if you cancel a booking giving us 2 weeks days notice. For notice under these time periods a 50% cancellation fee will be charged.
