Our premier ski touring course! This course is designed to give you the skills and experience needed to head out and have your own ski touring adventures. You will develop techniques required to safely get around in the alpine environment, and make practical assessments of terrain and conditions. We run this course in the high mountains where you will travel over challenging glaciated terrain and learn some basic climbing skills. We then put all the skills into practice with some stunning ski touring along and through the Southern Alps.

- Use and selection of touring equipment
- Use of technical gear such as crampons and ice tools
- Self-arresting
- Building anchors and belays on ice and snow
- Rope management skills
- Abseiling and prussiking
- Climbing on snow and ice

- Glacier travel techniques
- Avalanche hazard awareness
- Route finding and terrain selection
- Anchors in rock, ice and snow
- Self rescue techniques
- Pitched climbing on mixed terrain
- Weather interpretation
- Risk analysis, navigation
- Snow shelters
The emphasis on the course will be to identify personal strengths and strengthen personal weaknesses. You should finish the course with the skills and knowledge to plan and achieve some great touring trips. Think about combining this course with an avalanche awareness course to enhance your decision-making skills. This course will provide you with advanced skills that will help you fulfill your ski mountaineering ambitions and goals.

Includes: Guide fees, Department of Conservation fees, flight into the mountains, hut fees, all food, ground transport, some technical equipment and GST.
Mountain locations: We have access to a number of areas which are ideal for running these courses including; Mount Cook National Park, Westland National Park and Aspiring National Park. We will choose a location that suits you
