Our premier mountaineering instruction course! This course is designed to give you the skills required to thrive in high alpine mountain terrain. It incorporates time in the course to put you in charge, to test you as you demonstrate your newly honed skills. Nothing can supplement experience, so the more time learning from your guide the better. You will develop techniques required to safely get around in the alpine environment, and make practical assessments of terrain and conditions. We run this course in the high mountains where you will travel over challenging glaciated terrain and learn technical climbing skills. We then put all the climbing skills into practice and climb some stunning peaks along the Southern Alps.
Some of the topics covered over the 5 days include:
- Use of technical gear such as crampons and ice tools
- Self-arresting
- Building anchors and belays on rock, ice and snow
- Rope management skills
- Abseiling and prussiking
- Climbing on snow and ice
